Writing about myself is like having to do my own dentistry: needlessly complex and painful. However, I will pull some teeth so you may learn a little bit about the dentist, if that makes any sense. My passion for photography and poetry stems from my love of the natural world. As a child, my father took me camping in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, every weekend from May to October.
This ended around the age of 11, when my parents divorced, and my interest went into hibernation. During this time, my curiosity for the arts flourished. I began studying filmmaking and how to use a camera, which planted the roots for my transition to photography. Simultaneously I began writing, in any form I could, in an effort to express myself more completely. These two skills, using the pen and the lens to capture my surroundings, have remained ever-important to me.
It was at the age of 21 that my love of the natural world reawakened, when I began hiking and photographing the views on the trail. This brought great relief for my mental health, which I have struggled with my whole life. The more relief it brought, the more my interest grew. I began studying landscape photography and poetry, specifically Haikus, so that I could capture the world the way I see it.
And that brings us to today. A tooth now pulled; I hope you have learned something about me and the reason I create the art that I do. Let it bring the same relief and pleasure to you as it does to me.
